The Tools For World Evangelism
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
- Matthew 28:19, 20
God does not give a command without providing the means to accomplishing that command. The above passage tells us that the church has been commanded to get the Gospel out to the 6.7 billion people living on planet earth. An impossible task one may say but is it really impossible? Remember, God does not give a command without providing the means to accomplishing that command.
What is the means? It is found in the same passage quoted above. The Great Commission is divided into three parts:
- Get people saved – teach all nations
- Get saved people baptized – baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost
- Get saved and baptized people to get other people saved and baptized – Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you
The last part of the Great Commission can only be Biblically obeyed through the local church. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever Christ has commanded, is done through the local church. Ephesians 4:11,12 tells us that pastors and teachers were given to the local church for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry. While we are not opposed to city-wide evangelistic campaigns, these campaigns, unless they result in the establishment of local churches, only accomplish the first two-thirds of the Great Commission.
God does not give a command without providing the means to accomplishing that command. Why is the local church God’s tool for evangelizing the world? Let us consider this illustration:
If a preacher were to conduct evangelistic meetings and sees 3000 souls saved everyday, it will take that preacher 6,119 years to convert 6.7 billion people. Now let us say, for the sake of illustration, that a church were to see 3000 souls saved everyday but at the end of the year establishes another church that sees 3000 souls saved daily, and if we were to repeat this process every year with each church reproducing another church seeing 3000 souls saved daily, it will take approximately 27 years to get 6.7 billion people saved.
The key to getting 6,119 years down to only 27 years is found in obeying all three parts of the Great Commission. Churches starting churches is God’s plan for getting the Gospel to all the world.
It may be said that a church seeing 3000 souls saved daily and reproducing herself yearly is not realistic. Let us say then that we have 500 churches seeing 10 souls saved every week and reproducing themselves every year, it will take approximately 43 years to get 6.7 billion people saved. In one generation, our world can be evangelized.
Depending on where one gets their information, there are anywhere between 12,000 and 15,000 independent Baptist churches in America alone. There are enough churches today to evangelize our world in our generation.
God has given us the command to reach the world with the Gospel and He has also provided the means.
