America – On the Brink of Collapse
In the past, I have tried to write to our readers with a voice of encouragement, hope, and optimism. Today, however, permit me to be candid. America is on the verge of collapsing into absolute heathenism, at present bearing fleeting resemblance to “one nation under God.”
We have slaughtered 53 million babies, more than any other country in the world, in the 38 years since Roe v. Wade. In January 2011, Dr. Kermit Gosnell was arrested and charged for the horrific murders perpetrated in his abortion clinic or, as the media dubbed it, “house of horrors.” He is reported as having quipped that, of one particular newborn he had delivered and then killed, the baby was “big enough to walk me to the bus stop.” Gosnell would deliver the babies—alive—and then sever their spinal cords with scissors. How foolish it would be to believe that God’s judgment will pass over a country that allows her citizens to repeatedly “offend one of these little ones.” (Matthew 18:6)
We see little else that proclaims our nation’s Christian heritage. America has accepted and celebrates the Sodomite lifestyle, this“abomination” to God (Leviticus 18:22, 20:13). She seeks to align herself with movements and organizations that are in direct opposition to His Word. Case in point—a former U.S. President recently said that “the Muslim brotherhood is a peaceful organization,” a straightforward lie. I am reminded of Romans 1:22: “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.”
New Testament local churches and pastors are not exempt from this chaos. Pastors are compromising and churches becoming nothing more than entertainment centers. Preaching has been thrown out. “Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs” have been replaced with rock music and contemporary sounds. Church attendance is on the decline.
Today, I issue a call back to God. A nation is not rescued from ruin by Christians compromising or churches adapting or governments reforming but rather by God’s people turning back to Him.
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
II Chronicles 7:14
Let us recall the prophet Jeremiah’s message to the people, remembering also the tragic aftermath of a nation’s defiance and disobedience—
23 But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone. 24 Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the Lord our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest. 25 Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you… 31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?
Jeremiah 5:23-25, 31
5 Thus saith the Lord, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain? 6 Neither said they, Where is the Lord that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt? 7 And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination. 8 The priests said not, Where is the Lord? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit. 9 Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the Lord, and with your children’s children will I plead… 11 Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.
Jeremiah 2:5-9, 11
23 But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you. 24 But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward… 26 Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers… 28 But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the Lord their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.
Jeremiah 7:23-24, 26, 28
Please pray for America today. Pray for your pastor and his family. Pray for your church and for those in authority. And let us do our part—“humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways”—to bring this nation back to God.
